Book Review 📖 Tower of Thorns by Juliet Marillier

Book Two

Blackthorn and Grim trilogy

I didn't think it could get any better after her first book in the trilogy, Dreamer's Pool, but I was very much mistaken.

Tower of Thorns is the book that I fell hopelessly in love with Grim. My heart breaks for him for what he went through, but he is such a kind and generous person. He's such a good match for Blackthorn, and I don't mean as a couple, even though I'm hoping. I just think they have this friendship that needs no label.

Even though I find Blackthorn a stand-offish, I love her. She might think she isn't strong, but I think she is the strongest woman ever.
And most of all, I love her straight talking and not afraid to call bullshit.

Cannot wait to read more of these two characters.

I don't want to talk too much on the plot of this story, definitely need to go in without knowing anything.
What I will say however, I cried a bucket load of tears. That ending, I don't think I'll recover or forget.

Still kicking myself that it has taken me this long to read this trilogy. Will definitely be reading more by Juliet Marillier.

Another book that has been on my shelf for ages, and when I finally read it, I kick myself for not reading it sooner.

OH. MY. GODDESS!! This book is amazing!
From the characters, the plot, and the world building. If I didn't have any responsibilities, I would've easily read this in a day. I didn't want to put it down, I wanted to know what was going to happen next.

At first Blackthorn and Grim did get slightly on my nerves, only because they were prickly and judgmental to everyone they came across. I understood their reasoning, but it did at points become too much. However, they did grow on me and I love them. I love them a lot.
Prince Oran is basically a perfect character. He's a great leader, fair but firm, and even though he made mistakes, he took responsibility.
I don't want to spoil anything, but I had a feeling about Lady Flidais. I didn't know it would end like that though, so I was pleasantly shocked and happy.

The magic aspect to this, while it's mentioned many times, it doesn't feel like it's in your face. It just gives the right amount of mysticism.

Highly recommend this book to everyone, especially if you love fantasy.

Book Review 📖 Godsgrave by Jay Kristoff

Book Two
The Nevernight Chronicles

Godsgrave was everything and more. I loved every bit of it, and was sad that it ended. But then again, what a way to end a book. Thank goodness I didn't have to wait for the next book to come out, because I don't know how I would've handled it.

Before I give any more of my opinion on Godsgrave, I just want to say well done to Jay Kristoff. The development on all the characters, especially our main girl Mia, and the story arc, was absolutely superb. I couldn't and didn't want to put this book down.

Nevernight was mainly focusing on Mia and her journey in becoming a blade. So it was kind of "school orientated", where she was learning and growing as a person as well as her killing ability. Godsgrave took a complete different turn.

Godsgrave was Gladiators; bloody and fierce. As someone who is interested in history, especially ancient history, I loved that it felt like ancient Rome and getting inspiration from that. It definitely wasn't a great time period to be in, but it's interesting to learn.

I thought Mia getting through book one was a challenge until I saw what she had to go through in this book.

I don't want to say anymore without giving away spoilers, but I highly recommend people to read this series. You won't be disappointed if you love kick-ass females, because Mia is that and so much more.

Weekend Reads 📚 #4 Wrap-Up

82 to some might not seem a lot, but it did feel like I got a lot of reading done. Maybe because I’m at the half-way mark and crazy things are happening for Mia.

To say that I’m obsessing over this book, is a mild understatement. I tip my hat off to you Mr Kristoff.

Okay, enough chit chat, I need to get back to the story.

I'm actually shocked that I read that many pages, because it sure didn't feel like that. It was a busy day filled with house cleaning and book shopping, but because I'm so close to finishing, I was multi-tasking.
I'll definitely be finishing this book tomorrow morning and then straight onto book three; Darkdawn.

I thought I was busy yesterday, but today was busier. I did finish Godsgrave this morning then I spent most of the day out with my partners family, but as soon as I got home, I was diving straight into Darkdawn.
I'm only on chapter 5, and knowing me with the last book, I'll probably be taking my time. Especially when I'm really loving the series, I just don't want to see it end.

Weekend Reads 📚 #4

Just in case the title doesn’t make any sense, this blog post and hopefully many to come, is just me talking about my reading plans for the weekend.

I’ve seen these sort of thing done mainly on YouTube, sometimes with a reading vlog, but since I have a blog, this is as close as I can get to that.

Godsgrave by Jay Kristoff

Finished Nevernight last week and you can check out my review here, but basically, I loved it.
I had to start Godsgrave straight away, I want to know what Mia gets up to next. 

I'm about half-way into it, so hopefully I can get a lot of reading done this weekend, maybe even finishing it. Aim high.

That's the plan, but knowing how plans work, I'm not holding my breath. I don't have anything planned exactly, but with two kids, who knows what the day will entail.
But I will try and get as much reading done as I possibly can.

Book Review 📖 Nevernight by Jay Kristoff

Book One
The Nevernight Chronicles

Second time reading it, and I loved it even more.
I mean, how can you not love the dynamic duo of Mia and Mister Kindly.

It's so hard to give my in depth review without spoiling anything, cause I do believe you should go in this knowing only two things;
1. Mia is a badass chic that I look up to (I mean, besides the killing part anyway).
2. It's not YA!!
There are some "naughty" scenes in this book, so you are warned.

Jay Kristoff is an amazing writer, to hook me in and unable to leave and to create a character like Mia... Genius.
Even though I didn't mind the footnotes, I'm going to be honest, I didn't read every single one of them. I just wanted to read the story. I wanted to know what will happen to Mia.

Cannot wait to read Godsgrave, what will happen to Mia next.

Writing Diaries ☕ NaNoWriMo

Long time no hear. Even though I'm annoyed that I haven't done any writing whatsoever, I do have a good excuse. I was sick with a cold then an ear infection.
I might like winter for cuddling up with a good book, but it also means being sick.

Now that I'm better, some what, it's time to get back into writing.
NaNoWriMo starts soon, which means I need to get myself prepared in the month of September and October. I have an idea on what I want to write, but that means I need to do a lot of research and planning.

For those who don't know what NaNoWriMo is, it's a month long writing "adventure" in the month of November.
