My Thoughts

Even though I didn’t read as much as I planned, I did feel like it was a great start.

I’m currently reading Malice by John Gwynne, which will go to the challenge of “author’s debut novel”.

I was so caught up in reading that I forgot to update on Twitter and Instagram (no surprises there). Hopefully day 2 I will not only read more, but keep you guys updated and participate in more twitter sprints.

The Reading Rush TBR

I’ve done a few read-a-thons in my time, but there has never been one that I have been more excited to do.

The Reading Rush, if you don’t know, is a change of name from BookTube-A-Thon, and I’m so happy they changed the name. Every time the BookTube read-a-thon would come around, because I don’t have a YouTube channel, I always felt like I was left out.

Yes, they say that anyone can join, but I think it was the name that kept throwing people (mainly me) off.

Not only do they have a name change, but also a website where you can join and create your own profile. There are badges you can earn and forums where you can talk to other people.

I think that’s what really sold me, a way to record your reading progress and also meet book lovers around the world.

This read-a-thon starts on 22 July and ends 28 July your time.

Even though I mainly read hard copies, I do enjoy reading an EBook every now and then. Especially late at night.

I came across this sight, BookBub, where they would send you emails daily letting you know what books are currently free or on special.

It’s really simple to register. Just put your email address in then pick what genres you like. That’s it.

It’s a great way to find out what books are on special, and also finding new books and authors.

History Podcasts

Besides reading history books, I also love listening to history podcasts.

At the moment there is two that I’m really loving; Emperors of Rome and That’sAncient History.

As you can see, they are both about the ancient world. One Rome and the other mainly Greece. I think it’s because I’m really getting into the ancient world again.

Also, my son (who is 8 years old) is really getting into it as well, so I want to learn everything I can when he asks me a million questions.

Emperors of Rome is really in depth about the world and people of Rome, starting with Julius Caesar. It wasn’t until recently that I came across this podcast, so thank goodness for long car rides so I can try and catch up on them all. And trust me, there is a lot of them.

That’s Ancient History is by a BookTuber that I have been following for a while. So, I didn’t have to do a big catch up since I’ve been listing to her since the beginning.

I know nothing about ancient Greece, so I’m definitely learning a lot from her and her guests that she has on.

I highly recommend both these podcasts to anyone who is interested in history.

Weekend Reads #1 Wrap-Up

Malice by John Gwynne

Overall not a bad reading weekend.

I got quite a lot of reading done, which is probably thanks to spending my time in the country this weekend with no Wi-Fi. So there were no distractions. Other than my kids that is.

I’m really loving Malice by John Gwynne. Not surprising as it’s my second time reading it, but going back and either remembering things or seeing foreshadowing is exciting. I cannot stress enough on how much I love this series.

At first I thought I’ll be skimming through this because I know what is going to happen, but I’m taking my time just like the first time around.

There is nothing else to report, just a nice relaxing reading weekend. Perfect.

Weekend Reads #1

Welcome!

Just in case the title doesn’t make any sense, this blog post and hopefully many to come, is just me talking about my reading plans for the weekend.

I’ve seen these sort of thing done mainly on YouTube, sometimes with a reading vlog, but since I have a blog, this is as close as I can get to that.

So, I hope you enjoy.

Malice by John Gwynne

This is actually my second time reading this book, and considering it wasn’t that long ago I read it, and I have a TBR list that is longer than my life, I just need to get back into this world.

I could use the excuse that I finally got the follow on series to this one and I also picked this for The Reading Rush read-a-thon (details to be up next week), to be honest, any excuse is okay by me.

Even though I know what will happen, I have no doubt that I will still cry and be at the edge of my seat.

Book Review 📚 Fire & Blood by George RR Martin

Book One

A Targaryen History

I loved this book.

I don’t know if it’s because I love history in general, or the world that George RR Martin created, or even both, but I couldn’t get enough of learning about the history of Westeros and beyond.

Not surprised these characters are engaging and leaving me in tears after I grew attached to them, but I did. Damn you GRRM, you did it again.

Not only was I hooked with the story, but I was also in love with the artwork. Doug Wheatley did an amazing job of capturing the story in these beautiful images.

Even though I want Winds of Winter to finally be published, I actually wouldn’t complain if he comes out with the next book in this series. Well, I might complain a little, it has been years and centuries for even a snippet of Winds of Winter.

In conclusion, if you love GRRM and this world, and if you don’t mind reading a history book, then I highly recommend Fire & Blood. It’s a bit slow to get into, but once you are in, you will never want to leave.
